If you're not familiar with a Raspberry Pi B+ it is tiny computer, roughly the size of a credit card. For its small size it can be used in a huge array of applications. For comparison I took a picture of my Raspberry pi next to a dime. The computer itself comes with 4 USB ports, and SD slot (which doubles as the hard drive) and processor roughly equivalent to a 300MHz Pentium 2. Attaching hardware can be done through the USB ports, GPIO pins, audio, HDMI, 3v3 and 5v connections.
My primary purpose is to see how it can be used in a Secondary Science Education setting. And rather than focus on the Raspberry Pi itself I want to see what Science my students can do while using it. Of course, along the way I'll learn a great deal myself. Having virtually no experience with any sort of electronics and very minimal exposure to Linux this will be a quite the adventure!
